project date:
2014

   project venue:
Kraków

The history of the Krakow industrial quarter begins in the second half of the nineteenth century, when it begins in the second half of the nineteenth century, when the German Continental Gas Society from Dessau arrives in Krakow to sign a contract for the establishment of a gas plant, lighting Krakow streets and supplying gas to international customers. The gasworks was the only industrial plant operating in the city, when the first elected president Józef Dietl planned an intensive development of the city. One of the points of this plan was public transport. At ul. SW. Wawrzyńca Street, a depot for Krakow horse trams was established, and the first of them left on the tracks on October 31, 1882. 19 years later, Krakow introduced electric traction. The further development of the town was forced by the old man at the factory at the neighboring Dajwór. In 1905, the power plant was put into operation, which also included all lighting the city, replacing the gas road with light light. The history of this place, little known to Cracovians, will become the topic of the REST-ART.-WORK project. Resetting, starting over, a feature that has helped art for centuries. Workshop and technological solutions come and go. The artist, his thoughts and creativity remain. The subject of changes in such an important area of life as work and unconventional space, a project, an invitation to artists, is realized at work. Taking up the task, they force a specific dialogue between the place and the idea of appearing in the urban tissue and the recipient, who will often be confronted by accident with the one existing in the public space. Art can excite her in a great way, and artists, like a time machine, time viewers into the world that existed there, revive it and give it a new face. Using modern means of expression, they can bring to life what has disappeared and gone into the past, what remains in people's memories and on shelves in archives. They will be able to show the relationship between history and the present day, highlight phenomena that come back to us for problems. Today, industrial facilities do not function in the city center, but they can perform new functions. Old industrial buildings are the perfect space to present contemporary art.
